Unsurprisingly, you will often need to find contact information for lawyers. The Law Society of BC will allow you to do this relatively painlessly at the following link:

• https://www.lawsociety.bc.ca/apps/lkup/mbrsearch.cfm

Simply enter the lawyer's last name and first initial, then click “search.” If the last name is something unique (e.g. “Magomedtagirov”) you will likely not need to enter the first initial. If, on the other hand, it is something more generic (e.g., “Smith” or “Lee”) you will want to enter the lawyer's first name and double-check your results.

In the event that you find multiple results for the same name (e.g., “Greg Smith”), you will need to be certain you are contacting the correct lawyer, especially if the matter is sensitive. Consider the following options:

• If there is a folder for the matter, take it from David's desk and get contact info there.
• Check the firm's website.
• Pay careful attention to initials and middle names.
• If all else fails, simply call the most likely listing, ask to speak to Ms. X's assistant, and say you're calling from a court reporting firm and would like to confirm that Ms. X was counsel on the matter of So-and-so v. So-and-so.

When working in court, you may occasionally find that the lists of courtrooms posted by the court staff are not up to date. This article will show you a quick, easy way to find this information online.

First visit the Court Lists site. You may wish to bookmark this link.

You should see the following appear on your screen:

Click “Select a Location” beside Supreme Chamber List and choose Vancouver Law Courts as below. Click “View List.” Search for the action number (e.g., S123456) and you’ll see the courtroom number.

Once you have the courtroom number, view the Supreme Court schedule for the day for detailed information on your proceedings. You may wish to bookmark this link as well as it is updated regularly.

If your court day is happening outside of Vancouver, simply visit the Supreme Court of BC scheduling page to find your court and courtroom.
